MEET JOHN

Hello, my name is John Zimmers. I am running for the House of Representatives seat in the 19th District. I have spent my entire adult life in the real industry as an asset/property manager, lender and broker. Over the last twelve years I have worked as a residential broker. As a realtor, I know the top five reasons people come to an area, which are the same reasons they leave an area. Schools, Taxes, Safety, Transportation, and Shopping. Our tax base is fleeing, 2.1 million since 2000. Which means for us that stay, we are getting a bigger slice of the debt pie. Enough is enough, we have to stop growing our government. Illinois has more government at 12.5 million people than California, which has 40 million people. We rank last in the nation in many categories. It's time to stop this foolishness and make our state rank at the top. Remember, when you fight for something, you are not fighting for what is in front of you, you are fighting for what is behind you. That's our parents, our kids and grandchildren. I think they are worth fighting for, will you join me?
ISSUES
My candidacy sits on a 4-legged stool of public school reform, public safety reform, tax reform and immigration reform.
PUBLIC SAFETY - We need to initiate a virtuous cycle of education, crime-deterrence, and opportunity for our kids. If we have educated kids, there will be demand for them in the workplace, and not on the street corner. We must back the blue and repeal laws that increase violent crime and create vacancies in law enforcement.
EDUCATION - Chicago Public Schools ("CPS") – we currently have less than 25% of our CPS students reading at grade level, and about 10% of our students doing math at grade level, at an investment of about $30,000 per student per year. Reading and financial literacy are a must-have for our kids, our trade education programs must be reinstated. Let's reemphasize these programs that lead to high-demand, well-paying jobs.
TAXES - Illinois has nearly 7000 government units, those are departments, agencies, and the like as the 5th largest state. We have too many part-time jobs that pay exorbitant amounts. The more people that leave, for those of us that stay, we are getting a larger slice of the debt pie. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
IMMIGRATION - We are a nation of immigrants, and our immigration policy has to be economically sustainable. We should be able to fund immigration without raising taxes while admitting as many folks as we can, in an economically sustainable way, so that we can do so well into the future. We should be compassionate, smart, and economically disciplined as we create a sustainable bright future for existing and new Americans.
